Circuits and Systems Symposium

The 2009 IEEE International Symposium on Circuits and Systems (ISCAS 2009) is being held 24-27 May in Taipei, Taiwan. ISCAS 2009 is the world's premier networking forum of leading researchers in the highly active fields of theory, design and implementation of circuits and systems. Sponsored by the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society and hosted by the National Cheng Kung University, the Symposium will focus on circuits and systems for Human Centric Smart Living Technologies, including mobile communications, multimedia systems, sensor interface and biosystems. ISCAS 2009 will include oral and poster sessions; tutorials given by experts in state-of-the-art topics; and special sessions, with the aim of complementing the regular program with topics of particular interest to the circuits and systems community that cut across and beyond disciplines traditionally represented at ISCAS. IEEE Milestone Honors Invention Of Planar Process, Integrated Circuit

As part of the activities celebrating the 50th anniversary in May of the invention of the Integrated Circuit (IC), the IEEE Santa Clara Valley Section in California, USA, plans to unveil an IEEE Milestone in Electrical Engineering and Computing honoring two individuals. One is Jean A. Hoerni, for his invention of the planar process, and the other is Robert N. Noyce, who realized that Hoerni's process would allow many devices to be integrated onto a single piece of silicon. Read more

ISCAS 2009 GOLD/Technology Management Joint Session

IEEE Graduates of the Last Decade (GOLD) are dedicated to serving the needs of undergraduate and graduate students as well as engineers who have graduated within the last ten years. To this end, IEEE Circuits and Systems Society (CASS) would like to further compass young and GOLD members through new initiatives and activities. As a part of them, the first GOLD Session will be organized in 2009, co-located with the CASS flagship conference - International Symposium on Circuits and Systems (ISCAS).

The Session is a joint event of GOLD and IEEE Technology Management Council (TMC), scheduled for the afternoon of 25 May 2009, covering interesting topics related to both GOLD activities and technology management. The program consists of 3 parts: the Lecturer Session has 3 invited speakers, sharing their experiences in GOLD activities, technology management and starting a company from research. For the Panel Session, experienced leaders of our field will address the key area of technology management - Managing Projects Across International Boundaries, and finally the Reception accompanied with food and drink allows attendee to network and share experience. The session is open to all ISCAS participants. Learn more

IC Design & Technology Conference

The 2009 IEEE International Conference on IC Design and Technology (ICICDT) is the global forum for interaction and collaboration of IC design and technology for "accelerating product time-to-market". The conference, which is being held 18-20 May 2009 in Austin, Texas, USA, will focus on the close collaboration of design, device and process research. ICICDT is organized in a single session format to provide the opportunity for attendees to participate in all the issues during the short oral presentation and workshop sessions. This will also allow for direct interactions among attendees and presenters. Learn more

Second Life Virtual Community Now Includes IEEE Presence

Second Life®, an online three-dimensional (3-D) virtual world where residents are able to establish identities (avatars), explore, create and communicate, now includes an IEEE presence. Referred to as "inworld" by its residents, this interactive environment is designed to encourage social networking, collaboration and learning. IEEE has created a virtual infrastructure and presence to support its staff, volunteer and member needs within Second Life. This presence is spread across two islands and serves as a gateway for people to explore and participate in IEEE activities. Volunteers and members are encouraged to provide input and further develop the islands. View IEEE in the Virtual World.
