Educational Activities and IEEE Nanotechnology Council Team to Launch TryNano.org
The IEEE Educational Activities Board and the IEEE Nanotechnology
Council, with funding from the IEEE New Initiatives Committee and in
collaboration with IBM and the New York Hall of Science, have launched TryNano.org, a comprehensive nanotechnology resource for students, parents, teachers, school counselors and the general public. TryNano.org
is designed to enhance global public understanding of the growing field
of nanotechnology, the study of materials and properties on the order
of 1-100 nanometers.
TryNano.org is
dedicated to providing the public with the basic building blocks for
understanding nanotechnology. The site includes a basic overview of
nanotechnology, what scientific disciplines it entails, how the field
has evolved, where it is headed and its societal implications.
Other resources available on TryNano.org
include a glossary of important nanotechnology terms and a list of
links to other nanotechnology and nanotechnology education sites.

IEEE Honors Those Who Engineered the Future
Alexander Graham Bell, Thomas Edison, and other pioneers who founded
the American Institute of Electrical Engineers 125 years ago paved the
way for countless others, including those responsible for the more
recent advances we enjoy today.
At its 2009 Honors Ceremony in June, IEEE paid tribute to these
newer trailblazers who contributed breakthroughs in such areas as cheap
and compact semiconductor memory, programming language design,
deep-space communications, and broadband optical-fiber transmission. Read more

Nominations Open for Inaugural Award Recognizing Scientific Entrepreneurs
The Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation and the National Postdoctoral
Association are accepting nominations for the inaugural Kauffman
Foundation Outstanding Postdoctoral Entrepreneur Award, which
recognizes and celebrates a scientific researcher who has successfully
commercialized his or her discoveries through entrepreneurship. The
researcher must have completed postdoctoral research in the United
States at some point in his/her career.
Nominations for the award are open to scientific researchers who
have completed postdoctoral research in the United States and have
founded companies to commercialize their intellectual property.
Nominees will be evaluated primarily on their technical innovation and
the social value their enterprises have produced.
The researcher selected to win the Outstanding Postdoctoral
Entrepreneur Award will receive a U$10,000 honorarium. A second award,
the Emerging Postdoctoral Entrepreneur Award, will present a US$2,500
honorarium to a promising postdoctoral entrepreneur. Both awards will
be presented at the National Postdoctoral Association's 8th Annual
Meeting on 12-14 March 2010, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. Learn more
