2009 Journals to Cover Wide Range of Technologies, Interests
IEEE has released descriptions for the new journals scheduled to be published throughout 2009. Covering topics from solid-state circuits to computational intelligence in games, the journals represent the varied interests of IEEE. Once published, each journal will be available through the IEEE Xplore® digital library.

IEEE Solid-State Circuits Magazine
The IEEE Solid-State Circuits Magazine (MSSC) will publish peer-reviewed articles from leaders in solid-state circuits technology, addressing fundamental theories and practical advances in the field of integrated circuits.

IEEE Transactions on Autonomous Mental Development
Recent advances in computational intelligence, cognitive science, neuroscience and robotics have stimulated the birth and rapid growth of this new research field. IEEE Transactions on Autonomous Mental Development (TAMD) will look at how natural or artificial systems, under the control of its intrinsic species-specific developmental program residing in the natural or artificially designed genes, develop mental capabilities through autonomous real-time interactions with environments (including the brain’s own internal environment) using sensors and effectors.

IEEE/OSA Journal of Optical Communications and Networking
The IEEE/OSA Journal of Optical Communications and Networking (JOCN) will publish both theoretical and practical contributions that advance the state-of-the-art in optical communications and networking research.

IEEE Photonics Journal
Breakthroughs in the generation of light and in its control and utilization have given rise to the field of photonics, a rapidly expanding area of science and technology with major technological and economic impact. IEEE Photonics Journal (JPHTNCS) will cover all aspects of photonics technology, including how photonics integrate quantum electronics and optics to accelerate progress in the generation of novel photon sources and in their utilization of emerging applications at the micro and nano scales.

IEEE Embedded Systems Letters
The IEEE Embedded Systems Letters (LES) will provide a forum for rapid dissemination of the latest technical advances in embedded systems and related areas in embedded software. The emphasis is on models, methods and tools that ensure secure, correct, efficient and robust design of embedded systems and their applications.

IEEE Transactions on Computational Intelligence and AI in Games

The IEEE Transactions on Computational Intelligence and AI in Games (T-CIAIG) will publish peer-reviewed articles in computational intelligence and related areas in artificial intelligence applied to games. The scope of the journal includes video games, mathematical games, human-computer interactions in games and games involving physical objects.

New Expert Now Course Looks at Cooperative Control of Multiagent Systems
Be sure to tell your researchers, teachers and students about the latest course addition to the IEEE Expert Now collection. "Cooperative Control of Multiagent Systems: Synthesis and Experimentation" by Camille-Alain Rabbath, sponsored by the IEEE Systems, Man & Cybernetics Society, illustrates the various attributes needed and the complexity inherent to the design of multiagent systems. This course will focus on the well-known problem of multiagent path planning, with brief discussions of advanced techniques for formation of flight health management. The optimization problem and its solution will be cast in the framework of dynamic programming and Markov decision processes, typical of problems of optimization under uncertainty. A discussion of the results of numerical simulations, integrating decision-making with closed-loop dynamics of the air vehicles, for both formation flight and path planning, will also take place.

More information about this course—and IEEE Expert Now, the online education resource that provides the latest information on emerging technologies—can be found on the IEEE Expert Now Web site. Flexible pricing is now available for any size organization! Learn more
