IEEE Officially Celebrates 125th Anniversary
IEEE held the first IEEE Engineering the Future Day on 13 May to commemorate its 125th Anniversary. IEEE Engineering the Future Day recognizes the contributions and impact that IEEE, its members, and engineering and technology professionals have made for the benefit of humanity. Exciting activities were planned by IEEE members around the world to honor IEEE's heritage and focus on ways to advance technology and make the world a better place. Grass roots events took place in nearly two dozen countries including Ecuador, Nigeria, Portugal and Russia.

A global series of eight IEEE 125th anniversary celebrations launched on 27 April at the Technical University of Munich, with a reception hosted by the IEEE Germany Section. A total of 250 members, students, customers and friends turned out for the premiere event. On 30 April in Austin, Texas, the Central Texas Section teamed up with the Chamber of Commerce to host 600 attendees at Austin’s Third Annual Brain Party for the local engineering community, held this year honor of IEEE’s 125th anniversary. The IEEE Boston Section also sponsored a reception for the anniversary. Held on 11 May, the event featured keynotes from distinguished members of the engineering community. Anniversary events will be held in Beijing, China; Bangalore, India; San Jose, California, USA; London, United Kingdom; and Tokyo, Japan throughout the year.

Additionally, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a resolution supporting the goals and ideals of IEEE Engineering the Future Day. House Resolution 413, which passed 409-0, was introduced by Rep. Cliff Stearns (R-Fla.), who was a student member of IEEE while earning his degree in electrical engineering from George Washington University.   Check out all the anniversary events on the IEEE 125th Anniversary Web site
