New Library Journal Study Finds IEEE Still Better Value Than Other Publishers
According to the 2009 Library Journal Pricing Survey, the cost of scientific and engineering journals continues to soar—while IEEE journals remain a better value for researchers in all areas of technology. In addition to being the industry’s most comprehensive reference resource, with access to almost a third of the world's current electrical engineering and computer science literature, IEEE is offering that access at significantly lower prices than other competitive commercial publications—further adding to the value of being affiliated with IEEE.

Using the same calculation method as the annual Library Journal Periodical Price Survey, which looks at the cost of journal and periodical subscriptions in various industries, the average cost of an individual IEEE journal for 2009 is just US$730. Compared to the US$2,047 average price of an engineering journal, the value of a subscription with IEEE is obvious—IEEE journals are priced 65% lower than the competition.

Online Training Seminars Provide Valuable Tips for IEEE XploreŽ Users
Be sure you and your colleagues attend IEEE’s online training seminar, Searching with IEEE Xplore. The online tutorial provides existing and potential customers with free demonstrations, including tips on how to utilize all the tools available on the IEEE Xplore digital library to find the information you need quickly and easily.

Tutorials have been scheduled for the following dates in 2009:

  • 24 June at 2 pm
  • 23 July at 7 pm
  • 29 July at 2 pm
  • 30 July at 10 am
  • 6 August at 10 am
  • 18 August at 7 pm

Special Issue of Proceedings of the IEEE Looks at Security & Defense Technology
The June 2009 issue of Proceedings of the IEEE takes a look at optics and photonics technology for the security and defense industries. Guest Edited by Kazuyoshi Itoh, IEEE Member; Bahram Javidi, IEEE Fellow; Paul F. McNanamon, IEEE Fellow; and Wolfgang Osten (with Robert F. Leheny, IEEE Fellow, as Advisor), the special issue describes a wide range of sensor applications from global imaging to local bio-agent detection. Coverage includes techniques for identifying biological and chemical agents, innovative approaches to optical sensing, novel uses of optically based sensor systems, and hybrid optical radio-frequency airborne communications. Read this issue of Proceedings of the IEEE.

Show IEEE How You Engineer Your World
IEEE invites you to celebrate our 125th Anniversary by participating in the  video competition. The contest asks people from across the globe to submit short videos demonstrating their use of science, engineering and technology to make their living spaces more livable, fun, convenient or futuristic. Have you rigged your alarm clock to make you a pot of coffee in the morning? Or fashioned a virtual whiteboard in your car for convenient problem-solving on the go? Similar to IEEE's 125 years of innovations, there are no boundaries to Engineering Your World, just possibilities. Visit the IEEE 125th Web site to see examples and submit your own video

New IEEE Expert Now Course Focuses on Collaborative Computational Intelligence
Be sure to check out the new course offering in the IEEE Expert Now portfolio of continuing education.

Methods & Models of Collaborative Computational Intelligence, taught by Witold Pedrycz and sponsored by the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society, outlines collaborative computational intelligence concepts and their differing scenarios. The variety of possible mechanisms of interaction is organized into a setting of the C3 interaction paradigm (communication, collaboration, and consensus) which offers a coherent taxonomy of various schemes of interaction.

More information about this course—and IEEE Expert Now, the online education resource that provides the latest information on emerging technologies—can be found on the IEEE Expert Now Web site. Flexible pricing is now available for any size organization! Learn more
