Citations to IEEE Journals Continue to Climb
IEEE content leads technology research with highly-ranked journals in several technology fields, according the 2008 ISI Journal Citation Reports, published June 2009. The report ranks journals by their impact factor—the average number of times articles published over the last two years were cited in the most recent year.

According to the JCR, IEEE publishes:
  • 16 of the top 20 journals in Electrical & Electronic Engineering
  • 9 of the top 10 journals in Telecommunications
  • 6 of top 10 journals in Computer Science, Hardware & Architecture
  • 7 of top 20 journals in Computer Science, Information Systems
  • 9 of top 20 journals in Computer Science, Software Engineering

Additionally, IEEE has the #1 journal in Electrical & Electronic Engineering; Imaging Science & Photographic Technology; Robotics; Computer Science—Artificial Intelligence; Computer Science—Interdisciplinary Applications; and Automation & Control Systems. Read more

IEEE Xplore Goes Mobile
Get your know-how on the go, and put the most sought-after technical data in the palm of your hand! IEEE has released IEEE Xplore® Mobile™ (beta), which allows you to search IEEE Xplore from any Web-enabled phone. You’ll be able to conduct simple searches, view up to 10 article abstracts per search, and e-mail yourself a link to view the full article. It’s the fastest way to get the technical articles you need when you’re away from your PC. Visit http://m.ieeexplore.ieee.org on your mobile phone.

For more details about IEEE Xplore Mobile, visit our informational Web page.

IEEE Xplore Adds Over 250,000 Applied Physics Articles from AIP and AVS
IEEE has teamed up with two of the leading physics organizations—the American Institute of Physics (AIP) and AVS, the technical society devoted to materials, interfaces and processing—to offer a new subscription package to corporate and government accounts, available through the IEEE Xplore® digital library.

The AIP/AVS Applied Physics Library provides subscribers with unlimited access to five top journals in applied physics:

  • Applied Physics Letters (AIP)– the #1 most-cited journal in applied physics
  • Journal of Applied Physics (AIP)– the #2 most-cited journal in applied physics
  • Review of Scientific Instruments (AIP)
  • Journal of Vacuum Science and Technology A (AVS): Vacuum, Surfaces and Films
  • Journal of Vacuum Science and Technology B (AVS): Microelectronics and Nanometer Structures
The AIP/AVS Applied Physics Library is exclusively available via IEEE Xplore and can be purchased as a stand-alone corporate subscription or added to an existing IEEE Xplore corporate subscription. Learn more about the AIP/AVS Applied Physics Library

While not available as an academic subscription, AIP/AVS content may be accessed at Scitation.org via the DOI link.

IEEE Sponsors ASEE Welcome Reception and After-Party
IEEE sponsored the Welcome Reception for the Engineering Libraries Division (ELD) of ASEE at their annual conference in Austin, Texas, USA.  Approximately 70 people attended the reception, held at McKinney Engineering Library, Ernest Cockrell, Jr. Hall, University of Texas at Austin

Linda Whang, Engineering Instructional Services Librarian, University of Washington, organized the event, which featured a selection of local cuisines. Hosts for the evening were Susan Ardis, Head of the Science Libraries Division at University of Texas at Austin, and Amy Buhler, Assistant University Librarian, University of Florida.

Guests who continued to the IEEE networking gathering at the Shoreline Grill were treated to the nightly foraging display of approximately 1.5 million Mexican free-tail bats that live under Austin’s Congress Bridge.

IEEE-USA Honors NASA on 40th Anniversary of Lunar Landing
Earlier this month, through radio announcements and in a commemorative print publication, IEEE-USA honored the 40th anniversary of NASA’s lunar landing. On 20 July 1969, NASA's Apollo 11 mission was the first in which man set foot on the moon. After Commander Neil Armstrong descended the lunar module Eagle, he declared, "That’s one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind."

The main IEEE tribute appears as an advertisement in "The First Giant Leap for Mankind: A Publication Celebrating the 40th Anniversary of Apollo 11," which has been distributed to NASA facilities and contractors, government agencies, professional and trade associations, as well as to the general public at NASA visitor centers.
