About the IEEE Aerospace & Electronic Systems Society Newsletter
Engineers today start their careers with excellent technical skills and subject matter. The IEEE Aerospace and Electronic Systems Society (AESS) Newsletter includes time sensitive news useful to its members, and highlights content of the current issue of IEEE Aerospace & Electronic Systems Magazine.
IEEE AESS Board of Governors, September 2014
The Aerospace & Electronic Systems Society Board of Governors (BoG) had their fall meeting in St. Louis, Missouri, USA. The meeting was held 18-19 September in conjunction with the IEEE AUTOTEST 2014 Conference.
The Spring BoG meeting will take place 7-8 May 2015 in Washington D.C, USA.

New Subscription Option for 2015
Effective with the 2015 IEEE membership year, AESS members will have an option to subscribe to the new AESS Conference Digital Library. The library consists of nearly all AESS conference papers from this year back to the early 1990s. Almost 300 conferences are included. Subscribers will be able to read and download an unlimited numbers of papers using IEEE Xplore.
This is a great opportunity for members to stay abreast of the latest developments for less than the current cost of two individual paper downloads from IEEE Xplore!
Among the 2014 conferences included are: DASC, ICNS, IRS, NAECON, Aerospace, FUSION, PLANS, RadarCon, and AUTOTEST.
Costs for AESS members and Student members are US$20 and US$10 per year, respectively.
Cost for other IEEE members and Student members are US$60 and US$30 per year, respectively.
Look for the option under subscriptions when annual membership renewal invoice is sent.
Contact either Judy Scharmann or George Schmidt, with any questions.
AESS Upcoming Conference
The 2nd International IEEE Workshop on Metrology for Aerospace (MetroAeroSpace), will be held in Benevento, Italy, 4-5 June 2015. The event includes, but is not limited to, new technology for metrology-assisted production in aerospace industry, aircraft component measurement, sensors and associated signal conditioning for aerospace, calibration methods for electronic test and measurement for aerospace.
Special Sessions for MetroAeroSpace 2015 are organized on:
More details are available on their Web site. View the call for papers.
Call for Proposals - 2018 RadarConf
The Radar Systems Panel (RSP) of the IEEE Aerospace & Electronic Systems Society welcomes proposals from prospective organizers to host the 2018 IEEE Radar Conference. This conference series, originally initiated in 1984 as the National Radar Conference, has grown to have an internationally diverse attendance and reputation for the highest quality. The RadarConf series is the premier forum for the technological advancement of the field of radar including theoretical and experimental result for a diverse array of civil, scientific, and defense applications.
For more information on how to submit a proposal visit our Web site or contact Prof. Maria Greco or Prof. Shannon Blunt.
AESS Chapter Updates
New Chapters Created:
IEEE AESS is reestablishing the Best Chapter Award based on activities, support to members, and increasing membership. Update the society on what you are doing to help increase awareness of the availability of resources to members, please send reports to Erik Blasch.
IEEE Workshop on Sensor Data Fusion - Trends, Solutions, Applications
The IEEE Workshop on Sensor Data Fusion - Trends, Solutions, Applications (SDF 2014) took place 8-10 October 2014 at the University of Bonn, Germany, and was the 9th in a row of workshops that have been technically co-sponsored by the IEEE Aerospace and Electronics Systems Society (AESS) and the International Society of Information Fusion (ISIF). AIRBUS Defence & Space supported the event as an industrial sponsor.
Designed as a small scale annual workshop with a very personal atmosphere, it is complementary to the large International Conferences on Information Fusion, where the global fusion community regularly meets at varying locations. Visit our Web site for a full overview of SDF 2014.
Call for Participation- AESS Technical Panels
We invite you to participate in one of our Technical Panels, each panel holds its own meetings and membership base. Visit the following Web pages to learn more about your opportunities to become a member of an AESS Technical Panel.
Congratulations to the Radar Systems Panel for receiving the AESS Best Panel Award. This award was presented on behalf of the AES Society at the Fall BoG Meeting. Maria Sabrina Greco, the Radar Systems Panel Chair, accepted on behalf of the Radar Systems Panel membership.
Congratulations to Dr. John Hines for receiving the 2014 Pioneer Award. He is being recognized for his pioneering efforts in the "Development and Deployment of the Very High Speed Integrated Circuits Hardware Description Language, (VHDL)." The award presentation was held at the conference luncheon on 17 September 2014 at the IEEE AUTOTEST Conference held in St. Louis, Missouri.
AESS Sponsorship News
AESS is happy to announce that we have become an Affiliate Member of the IEEE Transportation Electrification Community. The IEEE Transportation Electrification Initiative is a "Think Tank of Scientists, Engineers, Academics, Practitioners and lay people" all drawn together with one common passion: to make Transportation Electrification a reality. Through one on one discussions, meetings, conferences, Social Media, and the IEEE Transportation Electrification Web Portal, the IEEE Transportation Electrification Initiative shall seek to accelerate the development and implementation of new technologies for the electrification of transportation which is manifested in the electric vehicles of today and the future.
Membership in this community is free to all. Anyone interested in joining can visit the community join page in the IEEE Membership and Subscriptions Catalog.
