IEEE Senior Membership

Senior Membership is the highest grade for which application may be made and shall require experience reflecting professional maturity; a candidate should be an engineer, scientist, educator, technical executive, or originator in IEEE-designated fields in professional practice for at least ten years and shall have shown significant performance over a period of at least five of those years.

An application for Senior membership requires three references unless nominated by a Senior member, and in that case requires two references.

For more information, go to the IEEE Senior Membership section of the IEEE Web site.

Congratulations to the newly elevated Senior members for 2014 thus far: Kristin Bing, Shane Blair, Elaine Chapin, Robert Estes, Arifin Nugroho, Andy Register, Edward Zuranski, Yan Zhang, Marcelo Bruno, Arief Gunawan, Miroslaw Sankowski, Thaddeus Lepucki, Wang Wei, Yuanxin Wu, Mohammed Khalidy, Masaaki Kobayashi, Jennifer Palmer, Taj Sturman, Chun Yang, Jeffrey Beyer, James Garrison, Frederic Pascal, Avid Roman-Gonzalez, Junhao Xie, Antonio Gomez, Gert Trommer.

ARGENCON 2014
The 2014 ARGENCON conference was a success thanks to the hard work of all involved. The purpose of the meeting was to facilitate interaction between scientists, technologists and the industry. The conference included presentations of technical and scientific work by local members, international speakers, panel discussions, workshops and social activities in the areas of interest of the IEEE.

The topics covered by were a clear sign of the development of electrical and electronic engineering fields in Argentina, helping the promotion and advancement of the art. While the scope of the meeting was national, it strongly promoted the presence of international specialist, visitors from neighboring countries. After a careful and meticulous revision process 162 high quality papers were published in conjunction with this conference. For more information, visit their Web site.

New Subscription Option for 2015

Effective with the 2015 IEEE membership year, AESS members will have an option to subscribe to the new AESS Conference Digital Library. The library consists of nearly all AESS conference papers from this year back to the early 1990s. Almost 300 conferences are included. Subscribers will be able to read and download an unlimited numbers of papers using IEEE Xplore.

This is a great opportunity for members to stay abreast of the latest developments for less than the current cost of two individual paper downloads from IEEE Xplore!

Among the 2014 conferences included are: DASC, ICNS, IRS, NAECON, Aerospace, FUSION, PLANS, RadarCon, and AUTOTEST.
Costs for AESS members and Student members are US$20 and US$10 per year, respectively.
Cost for other IEEE members and Student members are US$60 and US$30 per year, respectively.

Look for the option under subscriptions when annual membership renewal invoice is sent.

Contact either Judy Scharmann or George Schmidt, with any questions.

AESS Chapter Updates

The Spain Chapter hosted the AESS technically co-sponsored 17th International Conference on Information Fusion in July in Salamanca, Spain. This was this the first time that Spain has been the host country. The proceedings contained 327 papers, with a scientific program covering the different areas that form the fusion of information, including theoretical foundations and representation, developing methodologies, algorithms, modeling, tools and performance analysis. There were 386 researchers registered, representing more than 30 countries. For more information on this conference, visit their Web site.

The first international symposium on Observing the Earth co-hosted by the IEEE Benelux Chapters of AESS and GRSS. The symposium will be held in ESTEC, Noordwijk, NL on 4 November 2014. The colloquium will address the design and development of Earth Observation (EO) satellites and their specific payloads, along with the development and validation of retrieval algorithms allowing to extract geophysical quantities from raw observations. This symposium intends to bring together members of the engineering community involved in the design of state-of-the art remote sensing missions and of the scientific community involved in designing and validating retrieval algorithms. Current developments in Europe, such as the deployment of the Copernicus system will be addressed. The symposium will be organized as a series of plenary talks followed by a poster session. For more information on this symposium, visit their Web site.

The joint IEEE AESS and GRSS Singapore Chapter is hosting the 5th Asia-Pacific Conference on Synthetic Aperture Radar (APSAR 2015) will be held in Singapore 1-4 September 2015. The Asia-Pacific Conference on Synthetic Aperture Radar (APSAR) is an international conference devoted to SAR technology development and applications. APSAR provides an opportunity for SAR and radar engineers/researchers to present the latest R&D outcomes and discuss with colleagues from all over the world, especially the Asia-Pacific region. APSAR covers a wide variety of SAR and radar related topics including SAR system design and concepts, SAR applications, analysis techniques, signal processing, and more. View the APSAR 2015 Call for Papers. If you need more general information on APSAR 2015, visit their Web site.

The IEEE AESS Chapter under IEEE Bangalore Chapter was inaugurated on 17 May 2014 at Golden Jubilee Seminar Hall, IISc Bangalore. The ceremony was conducted by Dr. Nagaraj Shivaramaiah.
