December Editorial M-AES
It is with a mixture of emotions that I announce the end of my term as Editor-in-Chief for the IEEE AESS Magazine. The last five years have been some of the most educational, challenging, and enjoyable times of my life. When I took over this position five years ago from Evelyn Hirt, I confess I didn't really know what to expect; but as is the nature of engineers, I put on my thinking cap, took stock of the current status, and rolled up my sleeves to help wherever I could. Teresa introduces the new Editor-in-Chief of the IEEE Aerospace and Electronic Systems Magazine, Maria Sabrina Greco.

2015 Renewal
Membership is up by 2% this year. Membership Renewals have been sent out to the AESS membership base.

You can review all your options, including those that are free, by visiting the AES Society page in the IEEE Membership and Subscriptions Catalog.

Don't forget to renew!
IEEE Transactions on Aerospace and Electronic Systems (T-AES)
Each quarter T-AES publishes articles with aerospace or related applications. The areas of interest are naturally quite wide, and include space, avionics, guidance & control, navigation, power conversion systems, command & control and radar.

Aerospace ideas have wide applicability, hence other topics include intelligent & fault-tolerant systems, target tracking, multi-sensor systems, electro-optic and infrared sensing, sensor network management, large-scale systems and systems-of-systems, and even sonar.

The Transactions editorial staff would like to solicit authors for papers with interest in automated testing.

IEEE Senior Membership
Senior Membership is the highest grade for which application may be made and shall require experience reflecting professional maturity; a candidate should be an engineer, scientist, educator, technical executive, or originator in IEEE-designated fields in professional practice for at least ten years and shall have shown significant performance over a period of at least five of those years.

An application for Senior membership requires three references unless nominated by a Senior member, and in that case requires two references.

For more information, go to the IEEE Senior Membership section of the IEEE Web site.

Congratulations to the elevated Senior members for 2014: Moulay Akloufi, Kristin Bing, Shane Blair, Elaine Chapin, Robert Estes, Arifin Nugroho, Andy Register, Edward Zuranski, Yan Zhang, Marcelo Bruno, Arief Gunawan, Miroslaw Sankowski, Thaddeus Lepucki, Wang Wei, Yuanxin Wu, Mohammed Khalidy, Masaaki Kobayashi, Jennifer Palmer, Stephen Pendergast, Taj Sturman, Chun Yang, Jeffrey Beyer, James Garrison, Frederic Pascal, Avid Roman-Gonzalez, Junhao Xie, Antonio Gomez, Gert Trommer, Luis Valtierra, Jian Wang and William Barott.

About the IEEE Aerospace & Electronic Systems Society Newsletter

Engineers today start their careers with excellent technical skills and subject matter. The IEEE Aerospace and Electronic Systems Society (AESS) Newsletter includes time sensitive news useful to its members, and highlights content of the current issue of IEEE Aerospace & Electronic Systems Magazine.

IEEE AESS Board of Governors, September 2014

The Aerospace & Electronic Systems Society Board of Governors (BoG) had their fall meeting in St. Louis, Missouri, USA. The meeting was held 18-19 September in conjunction with the IEEE AUTOTEST 2014 Conference.

The Spring BoG meeting will take place 7-8 May 2015 in Washington D.C, USA.

For a full list of the AESS BoG officers, please visit our Web site.
New Subscription Option for 2015

Effective with the 2015 IEEE membership year, AESS members will have an option to subscribe to the new AESS Conference Digital Library. The library consists of nearly all AESS conference papers from this year back to the early 1990s. Almost 300 conferences are included. Subscribers will be able to read and download an unlimited numbers of papers using IEEE Xplore.

This is a great opportunity for members to stay abreast of the latest developments for less than the current cost of two individual paper downloads from IEEE Xplore!

Among the 2014 conferences included are: DASC, ICNS, IRS, NAECON, Aerospace, FUSION, PLANS, RadarCon, and AUTOTEST.
Costs for AESS members and Student members are US$20 and US$10 per year, respectively.
Cost for other IEEE members and Student members are US$60 and US$30 per year, respectively.

Look for the option under subscriptions when annual membership renewal invoice is sent.

Contact either Judy Scharmann or George Schmidt, with any questions.

-----------------------AESS Upcoming Conference

The 2nd International IEEE Workshop on Metrology for Aerospace (MetroAeroSpace), will be held in Benevento, Italy, 4-5 June 2015. The event includes, but is not limited to, new technology for metrology-assisted production in aerospace industry, aircraft component measurement, sensors and associated signal conditioning for aerospace, calibration methods for electronic test and measurement for aerospace.

Special Sessions for MetroAeroSpace 2015 are organized on:
  • Measurement for Improving Quality, Reliability And Safety in Aerospace Applications

IEEE Workshop on Sensor Data Fusion - Trends, Solutions, Applications

The IEEE Workshop on Sensor Data Fusion - Trends, Solutions, Applications (SDF 2014) took place 8-10 October 2014 at the University of Bonn, Germany, and was the 9th in a row of workshops that have been technically co-sponsored by the IEEE Aerospace and Electronics Systems Society (AESS) and the International Society of Information Fusion (ISIF). AIRBUS Defence & Space supported the event as an industrial sponsor.

Designed as a small scale annual workshop with a very personal atmosphere, it is complementary to the large International Conferences on Information Fusion, where the global fusion community regularly meets at varying locations. Visit our Web site for a full overview of SDF 2014.
