Thank you for reading this issue of the IEEE Industry Applications Society (IAS) Newsletter. If you have IAS-specific news to share with your IAS colleagues please send us an email for possible future publication in an upcoming newsletter.
Did You Know?
"Did You Know" is a new column focused on benefits and inforamtion for IAS members. Each month we will offer a few facts about a different topic. Next month's topic will be Social Media.
IAS Members have access to online member benefits such as:
New Offering for IAS Members
In an effort to increase member benefits, IAS has created the IAS Resource Center. This Resource Center will house technical information such as webinars, slides and white papers. IAS members will be requested to sign in to access this information. Anyone that is not an active member of IAS will be charged a fee to access this information.
If there is information that you would like to see in the Resource Center, please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Myron Zucker Student-Faculty Grant Program
The Industry Application Society is soliciting interested parties to submit proposals to the Myron Zucker Student Faculty Grant Program. The deadline for application submission is 31 January 2017.
Adhering to Mr. Zucker's goal, the principal objectives of the Student-Faculty Grant Program are:
The project must be designed to produce publishable results in one year (12 months). The preferred period of performance (for these 12 months) is 1 September through 31 August of the following year. The funding is such that approximately two grants, not exceeding US$25,000 each, can be awarded during each annual proposal cycle. This endowment is the programs only funding source; no other sources, including IEEE membership dues, are used.
Visit our website to view the program guidelines and the program application.
Our next webinar, "Design for Reliability in Power Electronic Systems" will be held 12 January 2017. Frede Blaabjerg, Aalborg University, Department of Energy Technology, Denmark will be the speaker.
To register for the webinar, please visit our website.
If you have any comments about the webinar program, or would like a particular topic addressed, please send an email to email@example.com.
6th International Youth Conference on Energy (IYCE)
The 6th International Youth Conference on Energy (IYCE) will be held In Budapest, Hungary, 21-24 June 2017.
Our main aim is to provide an opportunity to young professionals (undergraduate, MSc, PhD students and entrant engineers) to present their work in a friendly international environment, to enjoy Budapest and to make new connections for the future. Contributions are welcomed from any field related to energy and power engineering. For additional information, please visit our website.
Final papers will be published in IEEE Xplore.
Awareness & Prevention of Electric Accidents Video Available on IEEE.tv
The Global Overhead Powerline Safety Awareness Project (OPSAP), funded by IAS, has reached the first milestone by producing a video. IEEE SIGHT (Special Interest Group on Humanitarian Technology) will serve as its pilot in Hyderabad, India. SIGHT OPSAP-Hyderabad aims to reduce injuries and fatalities from overhead power lines. Satish Chaparala will manage the pilot with local support from the Hyderabad IEEE Section and the IAS/PES Chapter. The video can be found on the IEEE.tv website; members are encouraged to watch the video and socialize the video within their Chapters and universities.
2017 IEEE International Electric Machines and Drives Conference (IEMDC)
The IEEE International Electric Machines and Drives Conference (IEMDC) has been established as a majo event. Its inaugural conference was held in Milwaukee, WI, USA in 1997. The IEMDC 2017 anniversary session will be held 21-24 May 2017 in beautiful and sunny Miami, FL, USA close to many tourist attractions and just across the causeway to Miami Beach and the art deco district.
The scope of the conference includes technology advances in design, analysis, manufacturing and measurements for electrical machines and drives. Topics covered include rotating electrical machines; special machines, sensors, and actuators; electrical drives; condition monitoring, fault detection, noise and vibration; embedded applications. IEMDC 2017 will include oral and poster technical sessions for papers describing original and previously unpublished work, plenary sessions with invited speakers, tutorials, and exhibits. The digest submission deadline is 4 December 2016, please visit our website to view the IEMDC 2017 Call for Papers. To learn more about IEMDC 2017, please visit the conference website.
