Volunteer Opportunities
IAS is seeking qualified volunteers to work on publications, committees, and conferences. Please submit an inquiry by filling out a volunteer application on the IAS website.
IEEE Senior Membership
IEEE Senior membership is the highest grade for which application may be made and requires experience reflecting professional maturity. Candidates need to be an engineer, scientist, educator, technical executive, or originator in IEEE-designated fields in professional practice for at least ten years and shall have shown significant performance over a period of at least five of those years.
An application for Senior membership requires three references unless nominated by a Senior member, and in that case requires two references. Congratulations to the newly-elected IAS Senior members for 2016. IAS Distinguished Lecturer Program
The IAS Distinguished Lecturer (DL) and Prominent Lecturer (PL) Program allows Chapters to invite experts to visit Chapter events and give lectures. It is a great opportunity to have direct contact with the best researchers and industrial experts in our field.
The DL and PL lecturers can be reimbursed by IAS US$1,000 and US$600 per lecture travel. The monetary support of travel invitations is limited to three lectures per year. For more information, visit our website. New 2017 IEEE Fellows
The following IAS members have been elevated Fellows for the Class of 2017. Congratulations!

The Industry Application Society is soliciting interested parties to submit proposals to the Myron Zucker Student Faculty Grant Program. The deadline for application submission is 31 January 2017.
Adhering to Mr. Zucker's goal, the principal objectives of the Student-Faculty Grant Program are:
The project must be designed to produce publishable results in one year (12 months). The preferred period of performance (for these 12 months) is 1 September through 31 August of the following year. The funding is such that approximately two grants, not exceeding US$25,000 each, can be awarded during each annual proposal cycle. This endowment is the programs only funding source; no other sources, including IEEE membership dues, are used. Visit our website to view the program guidelines and the program application. ![]() IAS Webinars
Our next webinar, "AC vs. DC: Resurrection of Westinghouse and Edison debate" will be held 1 February 2017. Prof. M. Rezwan Khan will be the speaker.

The Global Overhead Powerline Safety Awareness Project (OPSAP), funded by IAS, has reached the first milestone by producing a video. IEEE SIGHT (Special Interest Group on Humanitarian Technology) will serve as its pilot in Hyderabad, India. SIGHT OPSAP-Hyderabad aims to reduce injuries and fatalities from overhead power lines. Satish Chaparala will manage the pilot with local support from the Hyderabad IEEE Section and the IAS/PES Chapter. The video can be found on the IEEE.tv website; members are encouraged to watch the video and socialize the video within their Chapters and universities.
![]() IAS Chapters and Membership Department (CMD) New Milestone
by Dave Durocher, IAS President
A milestone have been reached for the IEEE Industry Applications Society. Dr. Peter Magyar and his top notch CMD Team have officially signed on our 100th IAS Chapter during 2015-2016, the two years of my time serving as IAS President. Assuming you read my President's Message in the Nov-Dec 2016 Industry Applications Magazine, you saw my article stating that "During the past two years, we added more than 100 new IAS Chapters, primarily Student Brach Chapters across Regions 8-10." I submitted this article to Lanny Floyd on 25 July 2016, so for the record, I was taking a little risk in assuming Peter would not stop working over the last five months of the year. In grand fashion, he crossed the finish line with over a month to spare. Congratulations! Visit our website for the detailed statistics. ![]() 2017 IEEE International Electric Machines and Drives Conference (IEMDC) ![]() The IEEE International Electric Machines and Drives Conference (IEMDC) has been established as a major event.
