Volunteer Opportunities
IAS is seeking qualified volunteers to work on publications, committee, and conferences. Please submit an inquiry by filling out a volunteer application on the IAS website.

IEEE Senior Membership
IEEE Senior membership is the highest grade for which application may be made and requires experience reflecting professional maturity. Candidates need to be an engineer, scientist, educator, technical executive, or originator in IEEE-designated fields in professional practice for at least ten years and shall have shown significant performance over a period of at least five of those years.

An application for Senior Membership requires three references unless nominated by a Senior member, and in that case requires two references.

Congratulations to the newly-elected IAS Senior members for 2016.

IAS Distinguished Lecturer Program
The IAS Distinguished Lecturer (DL) and Prominent Lecturer (PL) Program allows Chapters to invite experts to visit Chapter events and give lectures. It is a great opportunity to have direct contact with the best researchers and industrial experts in our field.

The DL and PL lecturers can be reimbursed by US$1,000 and US$600 per lecture travel. The monetary support of travel invitations is limited to three lectures per year.

For more information, visit our website.

Join the IEEE Transportation Electrification Community

IAS is a sponsoring society of the IEEE Transportation Electrification Community (TEC). The TEC coordinates broad and deep activities throughout IEEE in the growing electrification revolution across transportation domains, including advances in electric and hybrid cars, more-electric ships and aircraft, rail systems, personal transport, and the motive, storage, power grid, electronic intelligence, and control technologies that make them possible.

The Community delivers engagement through leadership opportunities, professional development, standards development, and other programming for practitioners, researchers, students, and all IEEE members interested in electric transportation.

It is free to join.

As a TEC member, you will enjoy a discount for some excellent online tutorials on machines, fuel cells, batteries, and other topics.

IEEE Transactions on Transportation Electrification
The IEEE Transactions on Transportation Electrification (T-TE), first published in 2015, is now in full gear, accepting papers on any aspect of transportation electrification, including on-road, off-road, off-highway, and rail vehicles, airplanes, and ships.

While regular contributions are welcome, below is the deadline for our remaining 2016 special issue:
  • Special Issue on More Electric Aircraft (Deadline: 30 September 2016)

IEEE & KIPE Sign Agreement of Cooperation
During the June IAS Board meeting, a signing ceremony was held between IEEE Industry Applications Society (IAS) and the Korean Institute for Power Electronics (KIPE). The agreement addresses the IAS strategic action plan to expand globally. The agreement will:
  • Allow members of either group to submit papers sponsored meetings
  • Encourage students, scientists and electrical/electronic engineers of each institution to become members of both institutions
  • Advertise Chapter activities in joint or mutual membership development campaigns
  • Allow members to register for sponsored meetings at member rates
  • Allow IEEE members to subscribe to Journal of Power Electronics (JPE) and members of the KIPE may subscribe to IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications (T-IA) and/or IEEE Industry Applications Society Magazine (M-IA) at reduced "sister-society" rates

Links to the KIPE Journal can be found on our website

Sixth Annual IEEE Global Humanitarian Technology Conference 2016 (GHTC 2016)

The Sixth Annual IEEE Global Humanitarian Technology Conference 2016 (GHTC 2016) will be held 13-16 October 2016 in Seattle WA, USA.

GHTC is IEEE's premier humanitarian technology conference and was inspired by the IEEE Core Value, "Advancing Technology for Humanity." At GHTC multiple disciplines interact to identify, create and advance technology to benefit humanity. Our focus is on research, applied technology, and case studies pertaining to humanitarian technology and its application in the following areas energy, healthcare, disaster management, connectivity and communication, humanitarian challenges and opportunities, water and sanitation, agriculture, education, humanitarian technology deployment and deployment. Humanitarian technology is research and applied technology that benefits the resource-constrained and vulnerable populations of the world and improves disaster response. The conference will feature interactive sessions where attendees can share best practices and lessons learned that complement the workshops, panels, case studies, keynote speakers, posters, and technical presentations.
