Volunteer Opportunities
IAS is seeking qualified volunteers to work on publications, committee, and conferences. Please submit an inquiry by filling out a volunteer application on the IAS website.
IEEE Senior Membership
IEEE Senior Membership is the highest grade for which application may be made and requires experience reflecting professional maturity. Candidates need to be an engineer, scientist, educator, technical executive, or originator in IEEE-designated fields in professional practice for at least ten years and shall have shown significant performance over a period of at least five of those years.
An application for Senior Membership requires three references unless nominated by a Senior member, and in that case requires two references. Congratulations to the newly-elected IAS Senior members for 2015. Join the IEEE Transportation Electrification Community
![]() IAS is a sponsoring society of the IEEE Transportation Electrification Community (TEC). The TEC coordinates broad and deep activities throughout IEEE in the growing electrification revolution across transportation domains, including advances in electric and hybrid cars, more-electric ships and aircraft, rail systems, personal transport, and the motive, storage, power grid, electronic intelligence, and control technologies that make them possible. The Community delivers engagement through leadership opportunities, professional development, standards development, and other programming for practitioners, researchers, students, and all IEEE members interested in electric transportation. It is free to join. As a TEC member, you will enjoy a discount for some excellent online tutorials on machines, fuel cells, batteries, and other topics. IEEE Transactions on Transportation Electrification
The IEEE Transactions on Transportation Electrification (T-TE), first published in 2015, is now in full gear, accepting papers on any aspect of transportation electrification, including on-road, off-road, off-highway, and rail vehicles, airplanes, and ships.
While regular contributions are welcome, below are the deadlines for our 2016 special issues:

About the IEEE Industry Applications Society Newsletter Thank you for reading this issue of the IEEE Industry Applications Society (IAS) Newsletter. If you have IAS-specific news to share with your IAS colleagues please send us an email for possible future publication in one of our upcoming newsletters. ![]() IAS Webinars
IAS is proud to announce a monthly series of technical webinars on topics of current interest to the membership.
IAS has scheduled its second webinar for our Young Professional audience as well as professional development for our veteran members: How To Improve Your "Social" Life. The webinar will cover how IAS is currently using social media and how you can use social media in your professional career.
Past webinars and slides are available for view to IAS members. ![]() IEEE IAS Myron Zucker Undergraduate Student Design Contest 2016 The scope of the Industry Applications Society as a transnational organization, is the advancement of the theory and practice of electrical and electronic engineering in the development, design, manufacture and application of electrical systems, apparatus, devices and controls to the processes and equipment of industry and commerce; the promotion of safe, reliable and economic installations; industry leadership in energy conservation and environmental, health and safety issues; the creation of voluntary engineering standards and recommended practices; and the professional development of its membership. The Myron Zucker Undergraduate Student Design Contest is open to all IEEE Undergraduate student members. For the latest contest details and Design Contest 2016 Application, please visit the Chapter Promotion Programs, Awards and Contests website. The contest includes two separate categories, individual design contest and team design contest. The selected projects will be awarded by cash prizes, department prizes and travel aids to attend the IAS Annual Meeting. ![]() Call for IAS Award Nominations
IAS is now accepting nominations for the following Society Level Awards:
The deadline for the nomination submission is 15 March 2016. Self-nomination or nomination for any current executive board members is not acceptable. Please note that the "Young Member Service Award" is a new Society-level award this year to recognize services/contributions made to society by our young professionals. These are all prestigious Society-level awards and I encourage you to participate in the nomination process in finding the most deserving candidate for each award. ![]() Opening Ceremony of the "Antal (Tony) Bejczy Exhibition" Opening Ceremony of the "Antal (Tony) Bejczy Exhibition" was held at the Center of Intelligent Robotics in Obuda University, Budapest, Hungary. The event was jointly organized by the Obuda University and the IEEE Hungary Section on 18 January 2016. At this event, the IEEE Hungary Section Excellence Award 2015 was granted to Peter Magyar, IAS Chapters and Membership Department Chair. ![]() Call for Papers-IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications
The IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications has scheduled a special issue on fault diagnosis of electric machines, power electronics and drives. This Special Issue aims to offer an insight into the state-of-the-art of diagnostics and condition monitoring of electrical machines, power electronics, adjustable speed drives and related areas. The fault diagnostics of electrical machines and drives has been the object of a significant amount of research work during the last few decades. Reducing maintenance costs and preventing unscheduled downtimes, which cause production and economic losses, are a priority for manufacturers and operators. Correct diagnosis and early detection of incipient faults lead to reduce maintenance costs and downtime for the process under consideration, and in many cases also prevent harmful and sometimes disruptive failures.
