Volunteer Opportunities
IAS is seeking qualified volunteers to work on publications, committees, and conferences. Please submit an inquiry by filling out a volunteer application on the IAS website.
IEEE Senior Membership
IEEE Senior membership is the highest grade for which application may be made and requires experience reflecting professional maturity. Candidates need to be an engineer, scientist, educator, technical executive, or originator in IEEE-designated fields in professional practice for at least ten years and shall have shown significant performance over a period of at least five of those years.
An application for Senior membership requires three references unless nominated by a Senior member, and in that case requires two references. Congratulations to the elected IAS Senior members for 2017. IAS Distinguished Lecturer Program
The IAS Distinguished Lecturer (DL) and Prominent Lecturer (PL) Program allows Chapters to invite experts to visit Chapter events and give lectures. It is a great opportunity to have direct contact with the best researchers and industrial experts in our field.
The DL and PL lecturers can be reimbursed by IAS US$1,000 and US$600 per lecture travel. The monetary support of travel invitations is limited to three lectures per year. For more information, visit our website. New 2017 IEEE Fellows
The following IAS members have been elected to the IEEE Fellow Class of 2017.

Special Issue: Emerging Topics in Lighting, 2018
IEEE Journal of Emerging and Selected Topics in Power Electronics (JESTPE)
Scheduled Publication Date: September 2018 The drive for more efficient and smarter ways to use electrical energy is increasingly prevalent. Lighting, as the most common and naturally the most constant form of load, constitutes a significant portion of the total electricity consumption in all buildings. Therefore, it has a high energy-saving potential to optimize the lighting system, including both the lighting sources and their supply, towards better efficiency. Currently, LED lamps are replacing traditional incandescent lamps due to advantages in efficiency, life span and fast response. With the development of LED packing and coating technology, the cost of the LEDs will be further decreased and they will be more widely used in different applications. Besides, discharge lamps, like fluorescent lamps, metal halide lamps and sodium vapor lamps are still being used in many applications owing to their several advantages. Both the LEDs and the discharge lamps require a current-regulating driving circuit, which is a critical factor influencing the efficiency of the lighting system and still calls for improvements. Special Issue: Grid-Connected Power Electronics Systems: Stability, Power Quality, and Protection
IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications
Call for Papers Deadline: 15 October 2017 Grid-connected power electronics systems have been increasingly found in Renewable Energy Sources (RESs), High-Voltage Direct-Current (HVDC) systems, Flexible Alternating Current Transmission Systems (FACTSs), Variable-Speed Drives (VSDs), and other emerging energy-efficient applicants. The widespread adoption of power electronic apparatus in electrical grids brings more flexibility in power control and management, but encounters also a series of unprecedented challenges. The multitime-scale control dynamics of power electronics systems tend to induce oscillations or resonances across a wide frequency range. The limited over-current capability and the reduced rotational inertia of power converters are further deteriorating the system protection and transient stability. Numerous research efforts have thus been made towards these challenges, ranging from hardware concepts to converter/system modeling and control strategies. This special issue is devoted to identifying the technical barriers and the latest progress in the utility applications of power electronics systems. Prospective authors are invited to submit innovative approaches, survey papers or tutorials, for review for publication in this special issue. View the call for papers. ![]()
