Distinguished Lecturers
The Systems Council currently has six active Distinguished Lecturers (DLs). The purpose of this program is to increase awareness about topics relevant to Systems Council by creating a pool of subject matter experts who are willing to speak to IEEE Chapters, Sections, Societies and Councils.

To view the DLs, find out how to request a DL speech, or apply to become a DL, visit our website.

Systems Council Chapter Creation
A Chapter is a geographical sub-unit of the an IEEE entity and is established by petition to the IEEE. Chapters are concerned with representing and fulfilling the needs of the member in their specific geographical area. Chapters allow members to meet face to face and host local activities.

Creating a Systems or Joint Chapter is easily done through a petition, submitted to IEEE. For more information on this process please visit the IEEE website or contact Rich Hochberg, VP Member Services. To view a list of current Systems Chapters, visit our website.

About the IEEE Systems Council Newsletter

Engineers today start their careers with excellent technical skills and subject matter expertise. The Systems Council Newsletter includes time sensitive news useful to its members, and highlights content of the current issue of IEEE Systems Journal.

Upcoming Events

The first IEEE International Symposium on Systems Engineering (ISSE) will be held in Rome, Italy 29-30 September 2015. This symposium seeks to create an interactive forum for the practice of systems engineering across the multiple disciplines and specialty areas associated with the engineering of complex systems. Registration is now open.

The Keynote Speaker has been announced!

The Systems Council will sponsor a Systems Engineering Workshop on Monday evening, 29 September in Rome (date subject to change). If you are attending the Systems Conference and think you would benefit by being actively engaged in this Workshop, please advise Mr. Richard Milham at, Chair, Workforce Development Tech Committee or Mr. Roger Oliva at, Systems Council, VP Tech Ops. Topics are being refined and your help would be appreciated.

The 10th Annual IEEE International Systems Conference will take place 18-21 April, 2016 in Orlando, Florida, USA. View a brief history of this conference. The conference caters to both practitioners and academics, providing a forum to exchange ideas and experiences on technology, methodology, applications, study cases, and practical experiences. View the Call for Papers for more details.

Important Dates:
Initial Manuscript Deadline: 15 October 2015
Acceptance Notification: 1 December 2015
Final Paper Deadline: 14 February 2016

IEEE Systems Council Member Society Conferences of Interest

19th International Conference on Hybrid Systems: Computation and Control (HSCC 2016)
12-14 April 2016, Vienna, Austria

IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation (ICRA 2016)

IEEE Systems Journal

The IEEE Systems Journal is intended to stimulate awareness, appreciation and utilization of systems thinking and the supporting systems engineering disciplines, especially for complex systems, systems-of-systems, and complex cyber-physical systems, across many domains and application areas.

Do not miss the opportunity of submitting your most recent results for possible publication in the IEEE Systems Journal! Visit our website to view all the Call for Papers.

To prepare and submit your manuscript please follow these instructions.

To view the Call for Papers for the IEEE Systems Journal Special Issue on "Complex Systems in Finance and Economics," visit our website.

Significantly extended and expanded versions of papers previously published in conference proceedings can be submitted; provided that sufficient original material and innovative aspects are included (description of the extensions beyond the conference paper should be provided at the time of submission).

The IEEE Systems Journal: Impact on Our Technical Community

Evaluating the degree of excellence and the quality of a journal is not an easy task, however, some bibliometric indices are commonly accepted as estimates of the journal quality.

Thomson Reuters has recently released the 2014 bibliometric indices. The IEEE Systems Journal enjoys a clear increase of all parameters, indicating an increase of visibility and consideration by the community for our journal.

Year 2014 2013 2012
# of Citations 732 524 285
Impact Factor (IF) 1.980 1.746 1.270
IF without Self-cites 1.823 1.574 1.018
5 Year IF 1.899 1.753 1.234
Immediacy Index 0.246 0.200 0.134
Cited Half Life 3.4 3.2 2.9
Eigenfactor 0.00336 0.00272 0.00173
Article Influence Score 0.691 0.592 0.445

More details about the definition of these metrics are available at Thomson Reuters website.

The IEEE has issued a recommendation for the appropriate use of bibliometric indices.

This result has been possible thanks to the efforts of the entire Editorial Board, the many dedicated reviewers, and all the authors.
