IAS Call for Mentors
Are you interested in helping students and young professionals to start off their career? Would you like to provide career advice and share your experience with them?

You are invited to become a mentor at the first annual “Roundtable Mentoring Session,” at the IAS Annual Meeting in Baltimore on Tuesday 1 October, 2019.
The roundtable mentoring session is meant to provide a forum for students and young professionals (SYP) to connect with experts from industry and academia to learn about the various available career options.

The session will be setup in the form of multiple themed tables. Each table will have one mentor and a maximum of five SYP to facilitate discussion. Each SYP will get an opportunity to visit two different tables of their choice. The event will focus on three career tracks: Academia, Corporation, and Entrepreneurship, and each table will feature one of the following themes:
  • Academia
    • Teaching
    • Research
  • Corporation
    • Research and development (R&D)
    • Sales and marketing
    • Business development
    • Product management
    • Manufacturing
    • Product certification
  • Entrepreneurship
    • Start-ups
    • Innovation
Time and date
The session will start on Tuesday 1 October, 2019 at 12:00pm and will run for 2-hours. Lunch will be provided.

This year's conference will be held in Baltimore, MD, USA 29 September - 3 October, 2019 at the Baltimore Hilton hotel at the same time as the 2019 ECCE Conference which will be held at the Baltimore Convention Center which is right next door to the Hilton. There are a number of functions that will be held jointly between the two conferences such as the Plenary Session on Monday, September 30 and the Awards Luncheon on Thursday, 3 October.

Conference details are posted and content will be updated as we get closer to the conference.

We will have approximately 27 technical sessions this year along with a poster session that will be open for the duration of the conference and will include technical papers from our technical departments as well as student papers.

Committee Meetings - many of our technical committees and working groups have their meetings at this event and the schedule will be posted to the conference website soon.

We have five tutorials scheduled for this year and will happen on Tuesday, 1 October.

  • Quick and Simple Cost Estimated in Industrial and Commercial Power System Design presented by PK Sen
  • Hybrid Renewable Energy Standalone Systems presented by Prof. Ambrish Chandra
  • High Resistance Grounding (HRG) of Industrial and Commercial Power System presented by Dev Paul
  • Comprehensive Modeling and Control of Li-Ion Batteries and their Real-Life Applications presented by Prof. Mahinda Vilathgamuwa
Please note that tutorial presentations will require an additional registration fee.

We are working on new Young Professionals (YP) programs for this year's event which will include a mentoring session and an after hours reception, stay tuned for details.

The IAS Chapter and Membership Department activities include the Chapter workshop on Sunday, the CMD dinner (by invitation only from the CMD department), paper sessions include winners of the CMD Thesis Contest and Myron Zucker Design Contest, and various other activities throughout the week.

Nominations Being Solicited for IEEE Electrification Magazine Editor-In-Chief
The Steering Committee of the IEEE Electrification Magazine (EM) is soliciting applications/nominations for Editor-in-Chief (EIC) of the magazine, from IEEE members in good standing and with strong track records of work in/with industry. The position will be effective for a 3-year term, renewable, starting 1 January, 2020.

The Electrification Magazine is a quarterly magazine dedicated to disseminating information on all matters related to microgrids on-board electric vehicles, ships, trains, planes, and off-grid applications. The magazine is sponsored by the IEEE Power and Energy Society (PES), Industrial Application Society (IAS), Power Electronics Society (PELS), and Electrification Transportation Community.

The deadline for submission of the following items is 31 August, 2019:

  • Prior service on IEEE Editorial Boards.
  • IEEE Technical Committee activity.
  • Region.
  • Professional sector (i.e. academia, utility, manufacturer, government, vendor, other).
  • Up to five keywords of expertise.
  • A vision statement for the EM (1 page max.)
  • Titles of up to 10 IEEE articles authored by the applicant/nominee most relevant to the EM.
  • Names and contact information of three references.
  • A resume/CV of max. 4 pages.

All documentation should be sent to Maria Proetto, Senior Administrator, PES Publication Services, at m.proetto@ieee.org, with the EIC title for which you are applying or being nominated.

The Steering Committee of Electrification Magazine will review all nominees’/applicants’ documentation. Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed further by the committee to assess their leadership vision and strategies for the journal. The Committee will make an EIC recommendation to the PES President, who confirms the appointment after endorsement from the ExCom/Governing Board.

IEEE PowerAfrica2019 Conference
IEEE PowerAfrica2019 will be held 20-23 August 2019 in Abuja, Nigeria and is jointly sponsored by the IEEE Power and Energy Society and IAS. With a theme of "Power Economics and Energy Innovations in Africa," the conference covers all aspects of electric power engineering and related fields, including power systems integration, business models, technological advances, policies and regulatory frameworks for the African continent. This year, IAS is promoting electrical safety and petro-chemical programs and tutorials. Please check the website for more information on the sixth annual IEEE PowerAfrica conference.

Visitors are advised to check with their foreign ministry for the latest travel advice on Nigeria. Please note that most reports relate to the situation in Lagos and are written to cover them for “worst case scenarios.” Abuja is generally safe, but as with any city, caution and common sense should still be exercised.
IEEE International Transportation Electrification Conference-India (ITEC-India) 2019
Conference Dates: 17-19 December 2019
Bengaluru International Exhibition Centre (BIEC), Bangalore, India
ITEC India is a biennial conference sponsored by IEEE IAS Society and SAE India. It was launched in 2015 at Chennai, India followed by 2017 at Pune, India.

All the presented papers will be uploaded to IEEE Xplore® and will be eligible for submission for review for publication in IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications.
Conference Theme: ITEC INDIA 2019, the 3rd IEEE International Transportation Electrification Conference India is aimed at helping the Industry in the transition from conventional vehicles to advanced electrified vehicles. The conference is focused on components, systems, standards, and grid interface technologies, related to efficient power conversion for all types of electrified transportation, including electric vehicles, hybrid electric vehicles, and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (EVs, HEVs, and PHEVs) as well as heavy duty, rail and off-road.

ITEC INDIA 2019 will present an array of papers across different topics, Keynote Speeches, Panel Discussion and Ride & Drive of Advanced Hybrid and Electric Vehicles.

Special Presentation (SP) only Sessions:
Authors who would like to present their work but do not wish to contribute a full paper can submit a one-page digest for "Special Presentation (SP) Sessions." A regular paper is not needed. If accepted, speakers could make a presentation at the conference. Such presentations and digests will not appear on IEEE Xplore.

The conference will feature an industry exhibition focused on Electric Vehicles, components, subsystems and systems for all types of electric transportation systems (land, air, space, and sea).

International Conference on Computing, Power and Communication Technologies (GUCON 2019)
The International Conference on Computing, Power and Communication Technologies (GUCON 2019) India will be held 27-28 September 2019 and is being organized by Galgotias University. The University is based in Greater Noida (New Delhi, India), has an enrollment of over 19,000 students across more than 100 undergraduate and graduate program, is devoted to excellence in teaching, research and innovation, and to develop leaders who'll make a difference to the world.
Call for Papers
Prospective authors are encouraged to submit their original, unpublished research paper (which is not under review in any other conference/journal) of the given tracks in the format specified in the IEEE paper template through Easy Chair for publication in the GUCON 2019. Submissions must be plagiarisms free and submission must follow the IEEE Policy on Double Submission.

All submissions will go through a strict plagiarism check, only those submissions which pass through plagiarism check will be double blind reviewed with at least three reviewers and only accepted papers which are presented during the conference will be eligible for submission to IEEE for publication.

Volunteer Opportunities
IAS is seeking qualified volunteers to work on publications, committees, and conferences. Please submit an inquiry by filling out a volunteer application on the IAS website.
IEEE Senior Membership
IEEE Senior membership is the highest grade for which application may be made and requires experience reflecting professional maturity. Candidates need to be an engineer, scientist, educator, technical executive, or originator in IEEE-designated fields in professional practice for at least ten years and shall have shown significant performance over a period of at least five of those years.

An application for Senior membership requires three references unless nominated by a Senior member, and in that case requires two references.
