IAS President Visits SDEMPED 2019 and Xi-an Jiaotong University - China
IAS President, Prof. Georges Zissis, participated in the opening of the 12th edition of the IEEE International Symposium on Diagnostics for Electric Machines, Power Electronics, and Drives (SDEMPED 2019) and introduced IAS to the participants.

IAS This edition of SDEMPED was held, from 27-30 August, in the historically-rich city of Toulouse, the largest city in southern France and appealing by its historical background but also exceptional scenic location, centrally located between the Mediterranean Sea, Atlantic Ocean and Pyrenees mountains. The conference is historically co-sponsored jointly by IAS, PES, and IES.

SDEMPED is a world-class event that covers thematic including Electrical Machines, Power Electronics, Adjustable Speed Drives, Methods and Tools for Diagnostic, Tests for Predictive Maintenance, Prognostic, Materials for Electrical Machines, Power Systems and Power Networks, Embedded Systems, Emergency Applications, Fuel Cells, and Electrolyzers.

More than 120 researchers and practicing engineers participated in this edition of the conference and more than 90 very interesting papers have been presented.

IAS President, Prof. Georges Zissis, was invited to participate, as an invited personality, on July 23rd, to the inauguration of the new Campus of Xi'an Jiaotong University (PR. China) which is among the top-10 Chinese universities.

Be Wary of Email Scams Targeting IEEE Members
There is an increase in fraudulent emails that attempt to get personal information. IEEE Executive Director, Stephen Welby, recently sent out a memo to IEEE members and staff to remain alert to the risk of fraudulent emails and to maintain continued vigilance online. He states, “These fraudulent email messages have used spoofed addresses to pose as someone known to the recipient. Fraudulent messages often contain personal details about IEEE members drawn from non-IEEE online sources and from social media sites accessible by search engines. These emails attempt to commit financial fraud by exploiting the professionalism and camaraderie among IEEE members. These fraudulent messages often include a request for urgent assistance and will ask the recipient to transfer funds or goods to a third party.”
